The circuitous saga to restore Portland’s iconic elk statute and return it to a perch on Southwest Main Street will now wind its way into at least next year, according to the nonprofit partnering with the city to complete the project.

Randy Gragg, executive director of the Portland Parks Foundation, told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Friday he’s hopeful about a 2024 homecoming for the Thompson Elk Fountain, despite prior bureaucratic delays and an ever-expanding timeline.
